Dynamic translation
(9:46) If they had wished to go on the march, they would have made preparations to do so. However, Allah did not want them to go on the march, so He inhibited them. They were told, "Sit with those who stayed behind to sit."

(9:46) وَلَوۡ أَرَادُواْ ٱلۡخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّواْ لَهُۥ عُدَّةٗ وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمۡ فَثَبَّطَهُمۡ وَقِيلَ ٱقۡعُدُواْ مَعَ ٱلۡقَٰعِدِينَ
