Gamma quantum

Gamma quantum (or gamma photon) is a quantum (elementary particle) of electromagnetic radiation in the form of gamma rays, with energy and frequency in the range from several keV to several MeV. Gamma quanta have no mass and no electric charge, but they have energy and can interact with matter, causing ionization and excitation of atoms and molecules.
