Compare with Hebrew «פָרַק-paraq» - "to tear apart or away".
Compare with English «fractal» - from Latin «frāctus» - "broken, shattered", from Proto-Indo-European «*bʰreg-» - "to break".
(2:53) We gave Moses the book and the criterion (Arab. وَالْفُرْقَانَ, wal-fur'qāna) so that perhaps you would be guided.
