The triliteral root hamza dhāl nūn (أ ذ ن) occurs in the Quran 102 times.

A common Proto-Indo-European root *h₂ew- (perceive, hear, consume).

Arabic وَحْيِ (wahi, compulsion), and يُوحَىٰ (yukha, compelled), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ṓws. From *h₂ew- (see) + *-s with a semantic shift to hear, which occurred after the separation.

Санскрит. आविस् (avis, before the eyes, visually), from अव (ava), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hāwíṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hāwíš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂owís, from the root *h₂ew- (see, perceive, consume), compare with Hittite 𒌋𒀪 (uh-hi, "I see), and with Latin audiō (I hear, listen).
