The triliteral root sīn kāf rā (س ك ر) occurs in the Quran 7 times.

Sugar is the generic name for sweet-tasting, soluble carbohydrates, many of which are used in food. There are various types of sugar derived from different sources. Simple sugars are called monosaccharides and include glucose (also known as dextrose), fructose, and galactose.

Etymology

Arabic: سكر - sukkar and Persian: شکر - shakar ultimately from Sanskrit शर्करा - sharkara, which means "ground or candied sugar" (originally "grit" or "gravel")

Sugar addiction

(16:67) From the fruits of the palm trees and the grapes you get sugar (addiction) (Arab. سَكَرًا, sakaran), as well as a good provision. In that is a sign for a people who reason.

Alcohol addiction

(4:43) O you who acknowledge, do not come near the contact prayer while you are under alcoholic (intoxication) (Arab. سُكَارَىٰ, sukārā), until you know what you are saying. Nor if you have had intercourse, unless traveling, until you bathe. If you are ill, or traveling, or one of you come from the bathroom, or you had sexual contact with the women, and could not find water: then you shall seek clean soil and wipe your faces and hands. God is Pardoning, Forgiving.

(22:2) The moment you see it, every nursing mother will leave her suckling child, and every pregnant one will miscarry, and you will see the people drunk (Arab. سُكَارَىٰ, sukārā), while they are not drunk (Arab. بِسُكَارَىٰ, bisukārā), but the retribution of God is most severe.
