Etymology

in Hebrew 'כּוּן - kun - to be firm, to possess (be) firm (character, disposition, spirit, hand), to possess conviction.

In the Quran

(2:97) Say, "Whoever is (Arab. كَانَ, kāna) an enemy to Gabriel, then (know) that he has sent it down into your heart by God's permission, authenticating what is already present, and a guide and good news for those who acknowledge."

(19:13) And kindness from Us, and purity, and he was (Arab. وَكَانَ, wakāna) responsible (person).

(19:14) And pious to his parents, and never was he (Arab. يَكُنْ, yakun) despotic or disobedient.

(28:19) But when he intended to grip the one, who was their enemy, he said, "O Moses! Do you intend to kill me, as you killed a person yesterday? Obviously, you intend to be (Arab. تَكُونَ, takūna) a despot on the Earth! And you do not intend to be (Arab. تَكُونَ, takūna) among (self) improvers."
