Dynamic translation

(2:19) Or like a cataclysm, (falling down) from celestial, there is gloom, resound and electrical discharge upon them. They stick their fingers in their ears, from the rumbling, in the hazard mortal. And Allah exhausts the diversioned.

Translation of Edip Yuksel

(2:19) Or like a storm from the sky, in it are darkness, thunder, and lightning. They place their fingers in their ears from stunning noises out of fear of death; and God is aware of the ingrates.

Arabic text

(2:19) أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاء فِيهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصْابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِم مِّنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ واللّهُ مُحِيطٌ بِالْكافِرِينَ

Connected ideas

(2:243) Did you not see those who were evicted from their homes in groups, all the while they were wary of death; so Allah said to them, "Die," then He resurrected them. God has great favor over the people, but most people are not thankful. (1)

(30:24) From His ideas is that He shows you the lightning, by way of fear and hope, and He sends down water from the sky, and He revives the land with it after its death. In that are ideas for a people who understand.
