Rejection (Arab. كفر, kufr - rejection, denial, unbelief) - is a term that denotes individual's psychological reaction to the abstract mirrors of the Quran. A person who has fallen into kufr is called a kafir, i.e. knowingly denying the signs of the Quran, God, part or all of the Islamic faith.

In psychology, there is a term - denial. This is a primitive defense mechanism of the immature psyche, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.

Etymology

The triliteral root kāf fā rā (ك ف ر) occurs in the Quran 525 times.

In the Quran

(2:34) And when We called, (addressing) to the Angels: «Subject to Adam!», - so they became subjected except Iblis, he refused and became arrogant, and became of the Rejectors (Arab. كَفَرُوا, kafarū).


Denying God

(2:28) How can you deny (Arab. تَكْفُرُونَ, takfurūna) God, while you were dead, then He brought you to life? Then He will cause you to die, then He will give you life again, then to Him you will be returned.

Restraining the might of those who deny

(4:84) So fight in the path of God. You are not responsible except for yourself. Enjoin those who acknowledge, "Perhaps God will put a stop to the might of those who deny (Arab. كَفَرُوا, kafarū)." God is far Stronger (in) might, and far Stronger (in) punishment.

Jesus's mission rejection

(3:52) So when Jesus felt their rejection (Arab. الْكُفْرَ, l-kuf'ra), he said, "Who are my supporters towards God?" The disciples said, "We are God's supporters, we acknowledge God and we bear witness that we have peacefully surrendered.

(3:55) God said, "O Jesus, I will terminate you, and raise you to Me, and cleanse you of those who have rejected (Arab. كَفَرُوا, kafarū), and make those who have followed you above those who rejected (Arab. كَفَرُوا, kafarū), until the day of Resurrection; then to Me is your return so I will judge between all of you in what you were disputing."

(5:17) Ingrates (Arab. كَفَرَ, kafara) indeed are those who have said, "God is the Messiah the son of Mary."Say, "Who has any power against God if He had wanted to destroy the Messiah son of Mary, and his mother, and all who are on earth!" To God is the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is inbetween; He creates what He pleases. God is capable of all things.

(5:72) Ingrates (Arab. كَفَرَ, kafara) indeed are those who have said, "God is the Messiah son of Mary!" Although the Messiah had said, "O Children of Israel, serve God, my Lord and your Lord. Whoever sets up partners with God, then God will forbid the Garden for him, and his destiny will be the fire; and the wicked will have no supporters."

(9:30) The Jews said, "Ezra is God's son," and the Nazarenes said, "The Messiah is God's son." Such is their utterances with their mouths; they imitate the sayings of those who rejected (Arab. كَفَرُوا, kafarū) before them. God's curse be on them. How deviated are they!
