Etymology

The triliteral root sīn wāw hamza (س و أ), according corpus.quran.com, occurs in the Quran 167 times.

Compare to quranic «سَيِّئًا - sian», and engl. «sin».

Compare with English «sway» - "to fall; to move or swing from side to side; or backward and forward; to rock".

Compare with Russian «суета» - " bustle, fuss, razzle-dazzle, vanity", from Proto-Slavic «sujь» - "vain, futile".

In The Quran

(2:49) We guaranteed you from the people of Pharaoh; they were afflicting you (with) horrible (Arab. سُوءَ, sūa) torment, killing your children, and shaming your women. In that was a great trial from your Lord.

(41:34) And not equal are the good deeds and the evil deeds (Arab. السَّيِّئَةُ, l-sayi-atu). Repel it by that, which is better. Thus, one who, between you and between him was enmity, will become as if he is a close friend.
