Injeel
Injeel (Arabic: إنجيل, translit. ʾInjīl, alternative spellings: Ingil or Injeel) is the Arabic name for the Gospel of Jesus (Isa). Injeel is described by the Quran as one of the four Islamic holy books which was revealed by God.
Etymology
The Arabic word Injeel (إنجيل) as found in Quran, and now used also by Muslim non-Arabs and Arab non-Muslims, is derived from the Syriac Aramaic word awongaleeyoon (ܐܘܢܓܠܝܘܢ) found in the Peshitta (Syriac translation of the Bible), which in turn derives from the Greek word euangelion (Εὐαγγέλιον) of the originally Greek language New Testament, where it means "good news" (from Greek "Εὐ αγγέλιον"; Old English "gōdspel"; Modern English "gospel", or "evangel" as an archaism, cf. e.g. Spanish "evangelio") The word Injeel occurs twelve times in the Quran.
Greek "Εὐ αγγέλιον" connected to Middle English angel, aungel, ængel, engel, from Anglo-Norman angele, angle and Old English ænġel, enġel (“angel, messenger”), possibly via an early Proto-Germanic *angiluz, but ultimately from Latin angelus, from Ancient Greek ἄγγελος (ángelos, “messenger”).
The religious sense of the Greek word first appeared in the Septuagint as a translation of the Hebrew word מַלְאָךְ (malʾāḵ, “messenger”) or יהוה מַלְאָךְ (malʾāḵ YHWH, “messenger of YHWH”). Cognate with Scots angel (“angel”), Saterland Frisian Ängel (“angel”), West Frisian ingel (“angel”), Dutch engel (“angel”), Low German engel (“angel”), German Engel (“angel”), Swedish ängel (“angel”), Icelandic engill (“angel”), Russian ангел (“angel”).
In The Quran
The word "Injeel" (Arab. الْإِنْجِيلِ) appears 12 times in 12 verses of The Quran: (3:3), (3:48), (3:65), (5:46), (5:47), (5:66), (5:68), (5:110), (7:157), (9:111), (48:29), (57:27)
(3:3) He sent down to you the Book with truth, authenticating what is present with it; and He sent down the Torah and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla).
(3:48) He teaches him the Book and the Philosophy, the Torah and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla).
(3:65) "O People of the Book, why do you debate us about Abraham when the Torah and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla) were not sent down except after him? Do you not reason?"
(5:46) And We sent on their footsteps Jesus the son of Mary, authenticating what was present with him of the Torah. We gave him the Injeel (Arab. الْإِنْجِيلَ, l-injīla), in it is guidance and light, and to authenticate what is present with him of the Torah, and a guidance and lesson for the righteous.
(5:47) Let the people of the Injeel (Arab. الْإِنْجِيلِ, l-injīli) judge with what God has sent down in it. Whoever does not judge by what God has sent down, then these are the vile ones.
(5:66) If they had upheld the Torah, and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla), and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have been rewarded from above them and below their feet. From among them is a moderate nation, but many of them commit evil.
(5:68) Say, "O People of the Book, you are not upon anything until you uphold the Torah and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla) and what was sent down to you from your Lord." For many of them, what was sent down to you from your Lord will only increase them in transgression and rejection. So do not feel sorry for the ingrates.
(5:110) God said, "O Jesus son of Mary, recall My blessings upon you and your mother that I supported you with the Holy Spirit; you spoke to the people in the cradle and in old age; and I taught you the Book and the Philosophy, and the Torah, and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلَ, wal-injīla); and you would create from clay the shape of a bird, then blow into it and it becomes a bird by My leave; and you heal the blind and the leper by My leave; and you brought out the dead by My leave. I have restrained the Children of Israel from you, that you came to them with proofs; but those who rejected amongst them said, "This is an obvious magic!"
(7:157) "Those who follow the gentile messenger, the prophet whom they find written for them in the Torah and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلِ, wal-injīli); he orders them to goodness, deters them from evil, he makes lawful for them the good things, he forbids for them the evil, and he removes their burden and the shackles imposed upon them. So those who acknowledged him, honored him, supported him, and followed the light that was sent down with him; these are the successful."
(9:111) God has purchased from those who acknowledge their very lives and their wealth; that they will have the Garden. They fight in the cause of God so they kill and are killed. A promise that is true upon Him in the Torah, and the Injeel (Arab. وَالْإِنْجِيلِ, wal-injīli) and the Quran. Whoever fulfills his pledge to God, then have good news of the deal which you concluded with. Such is the supreme success.
(48:29) Muhammad, the messenger of God, and those who are with him, are severe against the ingrates, but merciful between themselves. You see them kneeling and prostrating, they seek God's blessings and approval. Their distinction is in their faces, as a result of prostrating. Such is their example in the Torah. Their example in the Injeel (Arab. الْإِنْجِيلِ, l-injīli) is like a plant which shoots out and becomes strong and thick and it stands straight on its trunk, pleasing to the farmers. That He may enrage the ingrates with them. God promises those among them who acknowledge and do good works forgiveness and a great reward.
(57:27) Then We sent in their tracks Our messengers. We sent Jesus the son of Mary, and We gave him the Injeel (Arab. الْإِنْجِيلَ, l-injīla)', and We ordained in the hearts of his followers kindness and compassion. But they invented Monasticism which We never decreed for them. They wanted to please God, but they did not observe it the way it should have been observed. Consequently, We gave those who acknowledged among them their recompense, while many of them were wicked.
